Unexpected Shape Between Letters? Check the P2 Fill Preview

If an unwanted shape appears between letters in the output preview, do not engrave the customer blank to see whether it disappears. Save the file and compare the same artwork in a second supported fill mode. A path visible before output is a file or software investigation first, rather than evidence that the P2 head needs adjustment.

What the reported artifact actually showed

In a May 2026 LightBurn case, a user saw an extra shape between two letters only with Offset Fill. Inspection of the supplied file found an additional inward segment. That explains that file, not every similar preview. The discussion also illustrates why deleting nodes indiscriminately can be the wrong response: the outline must still match the approved artwork.

The following comparison applies in an authoring tool that actually offers the named controls. It does not assert that TYVOK software has LightBurn's modes or that LightBurn directly controls standard P2. Keep file preparation separate from the currently supported P2 transfer and output route.

Preserve three views of the same design

Keep letter size, layout and imported geometry fixed while changing the mode. Otherwise a cleaner preview could result from a different font or accidental resizing. If the extra path disappears, record that observation without declaring the original outline repaired.

When a suspect node can be positively identified, edit only a copy using the authoring tool's documented operations. Compare the repaired outline against the original letter, including counters and adjacent strokes. Undo any edit that changes the intended character. Ask software support to inspect the file if the source of the artifact remains unclear; include a minimal reproducible sample without customer-sensitive data.

Check the final transfer, too

An authoring preview cannot guarantee that an exported file will arrive unchanged. Reopen the supported output file, check dimensions and inspect the final preview in the actual P2 workflow. The filled-logo vector and raster comparison addresses representation choice when that transfer changes the artwork. Do not rasterize blindly simply to hide an unexplained vector defect.

The P2 listing is the source for the selected machine configuration. This investigation needs no hardware access or test emission. If the preview is clean but physical letters show pale stripes, that is the separate filled-letter banding comparison.

Does switching to normal fill prove the original file is clean?

No. Different processing modes can respond differently to the same geometry. Preserve the original defect evidence even if a comparison preview looks acceptable.

Should I remove every closely spaced node?

No. Some nodes define intentional corners or letter details. Change only a verified defect in a reversible copy and compare the resulting character before approving it.
