Curved Text Resizes but Its Border Does Not: Check the Link

Check the text, its guide path, and the visible border as separate objects whenever a curved sign is resized. A larger word does not prove that its offset border has updated. Compare measured geometry before accepting the scaled X1S Pro layout, and keep the editable original available.

An April 22–24, 2026 LightBurn release-candidate discussion included a report of grouped text and offset geometry behaving unexpectedly during scaling. That is a historical reproduction case, not a claim that current versions universally have the issue. Run the comparison in your installed supported version on a copy.

Identify which relationship must survive

A curved sign may contain three different things: editable lettering, the curve controlling the lettering, and a separate border around the result. Grouping makes selection convenient, but it should not replace checking the dependencies among those objects. Start by hiding or selecting each component in turn so you know what the visible lines represent.

If the name itself still needs revision, establish the editable text-and-path relationship first. Resizing an already-outlined copy cannot restore text editing, and repairing a border around the wrong spelling wastes the comparison.

Decide whether the border scales proportionally

Suppose a design is enlarged from 200 mm to 300 mm wide: the scale factor is 1.5. If the requirement is proportional enlargement, a 4 mm design clearance would become 6 mm. If the requirement is a constant 4 mm border, the border needs a different construction decision. Neither result is automatically correct without the design requirement.

Do not measure only the widest point. A stale or malformed border can look acceptable at one end while crossing a tall letter elsewhere. Use several reference locations, including the tallest glyph and the tightest curve. Keep those locations in the design notes for later size variants.

If the border fails to update, undo the change in the comparison copy. Rebuild or regenerate the border from the correctly sized artwork using supported tools, then compare again. Preserve the editable master separately from any final geometry conversion. Treat a successful workaround as a verified result for that file and version, not as proof of a universal software fix.

The TYVOK X1S Pro page lists a large-format diode machine with LightBurn workflow support. Large dimensions make clearance mistakes more expensive in material, but do not change the software checks. Before committing a large sign, a full-size paper proof with verified print scaling can expose cramped borders and awkward letter spacing without running the laser.

Should a border always get thicker when I enlarge the sign?

Only if proportional scaling is the intended design. A fixed physical border thickness or clearance is a different requirement. Record which rule applies and inspect the resulting geometry instead of relying on the group scale percentage alone.

Can converting everything to paths prevent this problem?

It can freeze the current shapes, including any existing mistake. Approve the text and border first, preserve an editable master, and inspect the converted copy. Conversion does not establish that the original relationship was correct.
