Variable Text Appears in Test but Vanishes from Preview

If a name appears while pressing LightBurn's Variable Text Test button but is absent from Preview, stop before running an X1S Pro batch. The two views are not the same acceptance check. Inspect the text object's mode, layer output state, current row and any array behavior in the actual software version, then prove one physical item. A temporary display does not establish that the laser will receive a name.

A LightBurn user report describes exactly this Test-versus-Preview mismatch. The current LightBurn variable-text guide explains that Preview substitutes output values and that virtual arrays have a separate Test-button limitation. These are software behaviors to check; they are not an X1S Pro hardware fault diagnosis.

Isolate one text object

Save a copy of the known project first. Select one failing text field and note whether it uses Merge/CSV, serial or another mode. Check whether its layer is enabled for output, whether the previewed page or selected graphics include it, and whether Current points to a populated row. Then preview only a simple one-item job. If that succeeds, compare the original array and object offsets. If it fails, keep the batch stopped and follow the software documentation or support guidance.

View What it proves
Test button A substitution can be displayed temporarily
Preview The currently prepared output contains visible text
Non-firing frame The physical region is where expected
One marked sample Real name, placement and contrast are acceptable

Do not fill a blank preview by converting all customer text to outlines without first understanding the issue; doing so can destroy the editable link to the record and create a different production error.

Keep the production setup traceable

The TYVOK X1S Pro serves larger production layouts. Confirm its selected controller, software compatibility, real work area and safe fixture before any job. Use a known compatible material and attend the laser with extraction. This guide does not assert a built-in variable-text feature in TYVOK hardware; it addresses a conditional LightBurn workflow.

When the CSV itself grows, check the stored End row. For intentionally shorter runs, the prior partial variable-text array guide covers selecting a subset. Both are separate from a missing output preview.

If Test shows the correct name, can I run the job?

No. Confirm the intended row appears in Preview and on one actual sample. A visible temporary substitution does not validate the sent output.

Is the laser broken when Preview is empty?

The symptom occurs before physical output. Check the file, layer and software state first; report hardware behavior only when a simple verified job also fails.
