A Free Retail Display Still Uses Stock: Price the Whole Bundle

A complimentary retail display belongs in the wholesale bundle's cost even when its invoice price is zero. Include sheet stock, compatible cutting, supervised labor, assembly, design revisions and packaging. The useful question is whether the whole order still meets your contribution requirement after providing the stand.

In a July 2, 2026 seller discussion, a wholesale keychain order includes a free display. This is a reported selling tactic, not evidence of TYVOK profitability. The following example shows how to evaluate the promise before making it.

Define exactly what the shop receives

Specify one stand, its usable capacity, delivery condition and included artwork revision. A flat-packed stand and an assembled stand have different labor and carton requirements. Retailer branding changes can also turn a reusable design into a customer-specific job.

For laser-produced sheet components, confirm the full stock construction and the intended process for the selected X1S Pro configuration and extraction system. Retail display suitability also includes stability and ordinary handling. A sheet being processable does not prove the completed stand can support the merchandise.

Hypothetical 100-keychain bundle Cost
Display sheet allocation $8
Supervised fabrication labor $6
Stand assembly and inspection $5
Included artwork revision $4
Added packing materials $3
Total complimentary-display cost $26

The $26 display allocation adds $0.26 per keychain at a quantity of 100. If the retailer later reduces the order to 40 while retaining the same stand, it becomes $0.65 per keychain. These figures are illustrative inputs, not expected X1S Pro timings, material prices or margins.

Preserve the quantity behind the offer

Suppose the 100-item order contributes $120 before the stand. Including the display leaves $94 before other unallocated fixed costs. That calculation supports a decision about the bundle; it does not establish whether any particular wholesale price is good.

Write down what happens on reorders. If every small refill gets a new stand, the original allocation fails. An offer might include one initial display at the agreed opening quantity, with replacements quoted separately. Describe the condition clearly so the retailer does not budget for unlimited replacements.

Assembly instructions affect your cost even when the buyer does the assembly. Use a new-builder instruction check to find ambiguous part orientation before shipping. Missing instructions can convert a cheap flat pack into support calls, replacement parts and an unusable display at the shop.

Assign the X1S Pro a specific role

The TYVOK X1S Pro page lists a large-format work area and LightBurn support. That can inform planning for compatible sheet components. Verify the selected module, workholding and actual sheet layout; do not assume one layout completes an entire display or that compact keychain personalization uses the same process.

For a separate accounting question, distinguish engraving's added value from total product revenue. A profitable-looking combined invoice can conceal either an underpriced stand or uncosted personalization labor.

Should the invoice show a display price of zero?

It can, if that accurately describes the offer. Your internal cost record should still show its full resource use. Customer-facing price and production cost answer different questions, so a zero selling-price line must not erase the stand from your estimate.

How many artwork changes should be included?

Choose a specific allowance based on your process and state it before accepting the order. Estimate further changes separately. A retailer changing its logo after components are produced is a new cost event, even if the original stand was complimentary.
