Confirm that the box can be positioned safely and consistently with its lid in the chosen orientation. Proof the names and date at actual size, leaving room around hardware. A removable paper guide can help establish the same offset for several boxes. Test a spare lid or matching wood sample with the same finish before processing the final gift; unknown varnishes should not be assumed suitable.
