Not Responding or Disconnected? Save the Exact Job Status

If laser software shows Not Responding, do not assume the laser output or motion has stopped. Establish and verify a safe machine state using the manufacturer's stop or emergency procedure first. Only after the machine is safe should you record the exact status, software version, and job context for diagnosis.

The LightBurn 2.2.00 RC1 early-access notes distinguish Not Responding from Disconnected. That version-scoped wording is useful evidence, but a status label alone does not establish the machine's physical condition or identify the underlying fault.

Safety comes before collecting evidence

Stay with the machine. Follow the applicable manufacturer procedure for stopping output and reaching a safe state, and respond to smoke or fire according to the machine and workshop emergency instructions. Do not reach into the working area, move the workpiece, or treat a frozen interface as confirmation that the beam is off.

Once the safe state is verified, write down the words actually displayed. Avoid replacing them with a general description such as “the laser crashed.” Two different messages can lead support toward different investigations, and the exact wording may vary by application version.

Evidence to save after safety is established Useful detail
Status message Exact wording and screenshot if available
Software environment Application name, version, and operating system
Job identity Saved filename and selected output page
Observed sequence What happened immediately before the message
Physical observations What you directly saw, separate from assumptions

Do not guess how much of the job completed from a progress percentage. Record the observation and leave completion uncertain until the material can be assessed safely. Keep the workpiece position unchanged where the manufacturer's procedure allows, but safety takes priority over preserving alignment.

Give support a clear boundary

Describe whether the problem occurred while opening artwork, preparing output, or during machine operation. An SVG unexpected-entity import error occurs at a different stage and should not be reported as a communication failure without evidence.

Attach the exact saved project and active-page handoff record when sharing through an appropriate support channel. If the visible artwork also changed, document that separately; a re-exported bitmap orientation comparison addresses image direction, not connection health.

Consult the TYVOK X1S Pro product and support information for the selected machine's supported workflow and obtain its applicable operating instructions. Do not perform speculative wiring changes, controller resets, or a blind resume. A mention of a new status in early-access software is not an instruction to upgrade during an unresolved incident.

Questions after the machine is safe

Does Disconnected prove the laser cannot still be operating?

No. A software connection indication is not independent confirmation of the machine's physical state. Use the manufacturer's stop and verification procedure rather than relying on the label.

Can I press Start again if the screen becomes responsive?

Do not restart solely because the interface responds. Establish the job's actual completion state and follow the manufacturer's recovery instructions or support guidance. Starting again without that information may repeat processing on an already affected area.
