Text Disappears When You Weld a Ring? Try Boolean Union

Undo the destructive edit or reopen an untouched copy, then compare Boolean Union with Weld on correctly organized ring artwork. A successful command can still remove the interior geometry you wanted. Inspect the ring hole and letter openings before assuming the combined design is usable.

LightBurn's editor troubleshooting addresses content disappearing when welding shapes inside a frame and points to Boolean Union with appropriate grouping. The exercise here is external artwork preparation for an A1 Mini project; it does not establish direct LightBurn control or export compatibility for that machine.

Describe the shape that should survive

Imagine a hypothetical round decoration with an outer circle, an inner circle and the word “JOY” bridging the bottom of the ring. The desired result includes a clear central opening, readable letters and the intended joins between letters and border. An opaque disk is wrong even if its outside silhouette looks correct.

Save an untouched copy before trying either operation. Keep the ring's inner and outer outlines organized together so the intended hole is represented. Prepare separate comparison copies for Weld and Union. Check the relevant command documentation for the installed LightBurn version before applying the operation.

Do not keep repeating Weld on the already altered result. Once geometry disappears, further combining may make the original intent harder to recover. Return to the preserved copy so both alternatives start with the same paths.

Compare the interior, not just the outside

Use a filled preview as well as the vector view. The line drawing can look plausible while the filled regions reveal a lost opening. Enlarge the lower letters, then return to the intended physical size to judge readability.

A1 Mini artwork comparison Required observation
Outer ring Intended circular outline remains
Center opening Hole survives the combination
Letter interiors Open areas remain where the design requires
Border connections Letters join only at intended locations
Final-size appearance Word remains recognizable

Suppose the Weld copy becomes a solid face, while the Union copy preserves the center but leaves one unwanted overlap. The second result is closer, not automatically accepted. Correct the remaining geometry on a new copy and repeat the comparison. Keep the original until the final prepared file has also been checked in the machine's supported workflow.

Before either operation, verify that no small detail was missed by the enclosing-versus-crossing selection box. If Union is unavailable before you can try it, the disabled-Union group check addresses that separate starting condition.

From artwork to an A1 Mini project

The A1 Mini is positioned for small craft work. Use its documented operating software and independently verify file transfer, scale and appearance. A successful Boolean operation says nothing about material suitability or the strength of a narrow physical connection.

Will Boolean Union always keep the design exactly as I imagined it?

No. The input geometry and its organization determine the result. Compare against the preserved reference and reject missing holes, disconnected letters or unwanted filled areas before a material sample.

Can I recover vanished text after saving and closing the file?

Use a saved earlier version or another preserved source if available. Avoid assuming undo history will remain after reopening. Keeping an untouched copy before combining is the simplest way to make this comparison recoverable.
