A dashed border can become a solid line when its gaps exist only as a stroke style that the receiving editor interprets differently. Inspect the imported geometry and processing preview before marking leather. If necessary, prepare explicit separated dash shapes in the source editor and compare their size after transfer.
The March 2026 xTool dashed-line tutorial demonstrates styled outlines and patch borders. That confirms the decorative design task. Its controls are specific to xTool Studio; they are not P2 commands or evidence that a particular export will preserve every appearance setting.
Decide what each short mark represents
A visual border, a row of sewing holes and a tear line have different requirements. This procedure concerns a decorative mark on documented laser-compatible leather. It does not determine stitch spacing, seam strength or a through-cutting setting.
Keep the border on its own design layer, separate from the logo. A useful unpowered comparison is a straight 40 mm line carrying ten repeating 4 mm cycles: for example, 2 mm of visible geometry followed by 2 mm of gap. This is drawing arithmetic, not a recommended cutting recipe. Inspect how the source editor treats the start and end of the line; an incomplete last cycle can leave one short dash.
On a curved border, decide whether the gap at the closing point matters visually. A repeat that looks even on a straight edge may create two short fragments where a closed path meets itself. Review that seam at the final intended size before converting anything.

Converting strokes to shapes may preserve the visible silhouette but changes the object type. Outlining a thick dash and tracing its perimeter is different from drawing one short centerline. Compare the output preview with the approved appearance rather than assuming that more vector nodes mean greater fidelity.
If the job actually needs a fold or tear function, use a separately designed perforation layout. For leather, inspect oil, wrinkles and surface condition before spending time on an exact decorative repeat; unsuitable or inconsistent stock can undermine an otherwise correct border.
Keep the border inside the compact marking field
The P2 product page lists a 60 × 60 mm working area. Place the complete border within the documented field and verify focus and stable support for the actual blank. Leather composition and finishes need supplier confirmation for the laser process. A neat digital border does not make unknown coated leather suitable, and competitor settings should not be copied to the P2.
Why did converting the dashes make them look thicker?
The conversion may have turned a stroked centerline into a closed outline. Check whether you are now filling that outline or tracing both edges, and compare its measured width with the original appearance.
Can I make a longer border by stretching the whole design?
Stretching can change dash length and gap length together. If consistent dashes matter, resize the underlying border first and rebuild its repeat, then inspect the closing seam and final field fit.
