Tangent Circle Tool Disabled? Check the Three Input Shapes

A disabled tangent-circle generator often means its selection does not contain the required three true circles. Check the object count and compare width with height for each circle before reinstalling software or changing machine settings. This is a geometry-construction task performed before preparing the X1S 2026 job.

In a May 2026 LightBurn tangent-feature question, the tool became usable after the user corrected one shape that was not completely round. The case is a useful diagnostic starting point, not a guarantee that every disabled command has the same cause.

Establish a clean three-circle control

Save the decorative layout, then create a small separate test arrangement with three new circle objects. Set equal width and height numerically for each. Their sizes may differ from one another; each individual object must be a circle rather than an oval.

Select exactly those three inputs and check the tool in a version that includes it. If this control works, compare the original selection object by object. A group, stray selected line or nearly circular shape can make a visually plausible selection differ from the control.

For instance, a shape measuring 40 × 40 mm is dimensionally circular if it remains a native circle/ellipse object, whereas 40 × 39.8 mm is an ellipse. The difference is only 0.2 mm, or 0.5% of the width, and may be difficult to spot on a zoomed-out panel. Making dimensions equal is appropriate for an intended circle; it would be wrong to silently alter a deliberately oval design.

If making the basic shapes is the obstacle, the exact-circle drawing procedure provides the prerequisite. Once the generator offers a result, inspect where it touches the input circles and choose the construction appropriate to the design. A mathematical tangency can leave zero-width contact between regions; it does not establish a strong connection in cut wood.

Evaluate the finished geometry as a physical object

Print a full-size paper layout and inspect the arrangement, including thin connecting regions. For cut decorative panels, sufficient material bridges and structural suitability need separate evaluation. Do not convert every tangent into a cut merely because the geometry is elegant on screen.

The TYVOK X1S 2026 page lists an 800 × 800 mm starting setup and an 800 × 2000 mm extension path, with final-configuration caveats. Confirm the supported preparation workflow and actual machine. Generator availability is a software-version question; it does not imply any additional machine accessory, material capability or cutting precision.

Must all three circles have the same diameter?

No. The requirement concerns three circles, not three equal circles. Start with a simple control arrangement and check the documented tool behavior for the installed version.

Will a tangent circle make a strong decorative connection?

Not by itself. Tangency is a geometric relationship at a point. A real panel may need a deliberately designed bridge or different geometry, checked for the material and intended use.
